Kids lose touch with natural world — can’t identify common animals…

source: The Independent: Attenborough alarmed as children are left flummoxed by test on the natural world

According to the article linked above, kids are losing touch with nature as they were unable to identify common animals (as summarized by the Drudge Report…)

The article details the results of a survey given to 700 children that ask them to identify various plants and animals. It seems there was a large grouping of children that answered incorrectly for each question. (For some of the percentages, please see the source article.)

Children were better at indentifying robins and badgers than daddy-long-legs, an oak tree, deer, or a blue tit (which is apparently some kind of bird).

The article goes on to say:

Experts blamed the widening gulf between children and nature on over-protective parents and the hostility to children among some conservationists, who fear that they will damage the environment.

I personally blame global warming. </sarcasm>

I personally did not do as well as i thought i would. Looks like a need to brush up on my flora and fauna.
